SMP Racing driver Sergey Sirotkin participated in Formula E car test at the Mahindra Racing invitation in Marrakech (Morocco) on 13 January.

"There is no doubt that such a challenging, competitive сhampionship with the state-of-the-art technology as Formula E is a racing championship we need to pay a close attention to - said Sergey Sirotkin. – We have made a decision to collaborate with Mahindra Racing Team as it is a great opportunity to test new generation cars of this championship and gain valuable experience.

Even before the test drive we started to collect more information about this championship and realized that its level, technical and engineering systems and tracks are more complicated than it seemed at the beginning - mentioned Sergey Sirotkin. - During the last two weeks and especially during the day I spent in this car, my opinion totally changed. This car is much faster than you might think. Considering this car does not have much aerodynamics as the ones in Formula 1, basically its power is more than enough. Tracks are very narrow, without any run-outs, so you need to attack very close to the walls that makes the race even more interesting. Personally, I really enjoyed driving this car and, I should say, much more than many other cars that I got a chance to try besides main Formula championships.

The test-drive day itself was not flawless: there were some technical difficulties and the team needed some time to fix the problems. During the morning session we had two short races - just to move things along forward and to test the waters. In the afternoon we had the same problems and could not set up everything perfectly during qualifying - there were some difficulties with the traffic. All in all the team worked according to the plan and we tried a number of settings. I think that despite the difficulties, everyone was satisfied with the result accomplished - we ended the day on a good note and got many positive feedback.

Ex-Williams Formula 1 driver Sergey Sirotkin is set to make at least two FIA World Endurance Championship outings with the SMP Racing LMP1 team next year.

SMP-affiliated Sirotkin, who has lost his Williams F1 seat to Robert Kubica for 2019, could make his WEC LMP1 race debut as soon as March's Sebring 1000 Miles in the Russian squad's #11 BR Engineering BR1.

He would replace Jenson Button, who is skipping both the Sebring race and the following event in Spa Button to skip Sebring and Spa WEC races due to clashing Super GT commitments with Honda.

While Button will be back for the 2018/19 season-closing Le Mans 24 Hours, Sirotkin said he would be "for sure" returning to the French classic in June, raising the prospect of a further shuffle of the SMP driver line-up.

"WEC is not even an option, it is almost an obligation," Sirotkin told Motorsport.com. "I can almost guarantee you that you’ll see me racing in WEC next year.

"I think it is clear for which team and in which car. Maybe even from Sebring onwards, and Le Mans for sure."

Sirotkin made his Le Mans debut last year in an SMP Racing-run Dallara LMP2 car, finishing 16th in class, but he says he doesn't expect this experience to be of much use in LMP1.

"It is a completely different story compared to F1, so I don’t think it will help me much," added Sirotkin.

"That's why I think that before Le Mans I’ll do a few races to get to know the car better, understand it, what to pay attention to and so on."

At the end of the 2018 DTM year, Audi Sport offered seven drivers the opportunity to gather new racing experience: during the joint test of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz at Jerez the race drivers were obviously thrilled once again by the 2018 version of the Audi RS 5 DTM that bade its farewell.

For Audi Sport, the tests at Jerez, Spain, marked a successful ending of the 2018 DTM year. Seven drivers in total from six different nations had the opportunity to test this season’s Audi RS 5 DTM for the first time. From Monday to Wednesday Jonathan Aberdein (20/South Africa), Andreas Bakkerud (27/Norway), Mattia Drudi (20/Italy), Sacha Fenestraz (19/France), Sergey Sirotkin (23/Russia), Benoît Tréluyer (42/France) and Frédéric Vervisch (32/Belgium) shared time in the cockpit of a total of two RS 5 DTM cars. For the test, Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s DTM squad and Audi DTM customer team WRT each fielded one of Audi’s DTM touring cars with V8 naturally aspirated engines. Jamie Green provided the race drivers with valuable pointers. The Briton was active as a reference driver for Audi Sport and rang in the tests on Monday.

“This was another very good test for Audi Sport here at Jerez,” said Project Leader Andreas Roos. “All seven drivers did a very good job in our Audi RS 5 DTM. I was particularly pleased to see how excited they obviously were. Even someone like Sergey (Sirotkin) with Formula One experience under his belt had a grin on his face afterwards. With our test vehicle we were able to check off a lot of items on our test program list. We drove a total of 1,457 kilometers on these three days, and largely did so without any issues. Now we’re going to use the rather long winter break to analyze the data before we’ll return to Jerez in March for the next official pre-season DTM test.”

Sergey Sirotkin (91 laps): “I watched the DTM even as a child, so I was incredibly excited about the test. Being able to sit in an RS 5 DTM was a unique experience, but also pretty tricky. I hadn’t found the perfect feel for the car by the end of my stint. I’ve never driven a race car before that comes close to the RS 5 DTM – the closest I may have come to it was in Formula 3. The engineers and the mechanics supported me as best they could and shortened the time for me to familiarize myself as much as possible – many thanks once more to everyone.”

Dear friends, unfortunately, I won’t be racing in Formula 1 next year.

It was very long and tough year, not everything went as I wanted it to be, but I kept working and gave all my energy and all my heart to achieve what I feel we deserved to and if I am honest, I do believe we did a very reasonable job in current situation we found ourselves this year.

Thanks everyone for your support, for your trust and warm words, thanks for all the support I got during the Russian GP in Sochi which did seriously touch me a lot!

And partly thanks to you all this season will always remain in my memory! Thanks for everything, dear friends!
